Both were EB2 from the same company. PD on one was Oct/2006 and the other was Feb/2002.

You mentioned that both of your cases are under EB2, correct? Normally people will do interfile (PD Amendment) from one category to another, like EB3 to EB2.
Can you please share why you ported in the same category? Or because of some other reason?

I haven't got my FP either, No SR opened.
My case was transferred from California to Nebraska. My lawyer said that could be the reason for the delay

For couple of weeks in 2001, when I was getting H1 transfer, I was without pay. I applied H1 transfer before old H1 expired, but got the receipt notice after few weeks and only after that I started working. Am I out of status ?
For that matter, is it out of status if one gets paid from 2 companies with
2 H1bs ? If one is on bench but getting paid by one company, starts working with 2nd company on new H1b?

After this it will have another round of hearing on June 23rd . Which is Full Commitee. Which will makr up bill and if passes there it will send to clerk for scheduling to debate on house floor.
Before it reaches to house we need to make sure we call CHC members and other lawmakers to educate them before bill on floor.

I doubt this law will cause any trouble. For analogy, there are laws around carrying current insurance papers. Once I didnt have my current insurance, since every six months new ones get mailed and I forgot to keep them in the car. I showed the police officer my previous expired insurance and mentioned that the insurance-id is the same. He accepted it and asked me to carry the current copy in future.

Good stuff, We will all do this. As such, most of the reqruiters, when they contact you on phone they say "My client is not interested in hiring h1b candidates, you must have at least a Green Card or a EAD or must be a US citizen", I was under the impression that a company has the right to proceed with considering you for a job based on whether you are a EAD or a GC or a citizen

Dear IV folks,
After a long long 7 years I finally received my Green Card y'day.
If not anything... this process does forcefully teach patience, hope, anger mgnt & gives a new understanding of terms UNFAIR & UNJUST.
My app did experience all the delays ..Backlog centers, company change, date portability, NameCheck..
For expediting Namecheck & Serv. ticket I had written/fax/calls to almost everyone in govt. White House, First Lady, DHS Dir, TSC Dir, USCIS Dir, Senator...
Not sure if anything worked, but finally 180 day rule might have helped.
Finally ...it's a great sense of relief.
I was desperately needing it now as I wanted MBA loan & change of field etc.
Special thanks to pappu,logiclife,berkeleybee,Googler ...you guys are the lighthouses in this long tempest.
It's amazing that someone whom you don't know & have never met, inspire & guide so many others.
All the very best to everyone & I hope everyone gets their GC in a FAIR order - FIFO -.

In my opinion, having the right skills and qualifications is one's security, and that�s what I have always banked on while moving so forward on a H1.
I agree with you on this part. Many people became complacent after finding a good job and lost their edge. This applies to even GC holders also.
On the other hand, I find it extremely difficult to penetrate the upper levels of jobs with just H-1B alone. Horizontal growth does not fascinate me any more. GC is the key for upward mobility.

I got a quote and passed the physicals, and only two months later was told the underwriter doubled the premium because I did not have green card.
For mortgage, you have to shop around to find one that does not mind your non-immigrant status. I was able to get preapproved for a first time buyer loan with low rate. But I did not purchase the house. So I will not know if they would jack my rate up at closing because of my status as the insurance company did.
Thats interesting to know that we even pay higher life insurances due to not having a greencard. can someone else second this from their experience. I am not aware of these hardships so if we have to say this in any media interview, we need correct information substantiated by facts.

It says otherwise approvable but for name check. Does that mean Visa numbers are already allotted for these 47K cases hence they wont eat up the visa numbers?
Visa number is allocated when the case is finally adjudicated. Hence, they will certainly eat up visa numbers. Maybe for EB 10 - 15 K and rest for FB. Just a guess.

What's is Frist's motive in trying to trip the McCain - Kennedy or Specter's Markup? What's his point?
Looks like in Congress, each senior senator is a leader of his own and don't tolerate or cannot see eye to eye on more serious work of fellow senators or congressman. The idea is to trip the whole effort to treat illegal immigrants as humans. In Frist and its ilk's opinion, they want the services of illegal (and legal) immigrants, but this great country doesn't want to give any benefits to the illegal aliens in return. It's is so farcical, only the feudal minded Frists' can do it. Many in this country want 'closure' for this and 'closure' for that, but they deny all relief to these illegal aliens. Our goal of relief from retrogression and to increase visa numbers is unfortunately tied to such 'comprehensive bills'.
I want users of this forum to think about it, ruminate on it and write letters to law makers, newspapers etc.

there should be a cap on how many H1's a MNC that's not based in US can apply. ex: companies(like wipro, infosys, satyam..)

Looks like for July 2nd they just started and i talked to 5 other guys( who got receipt) - all of them has a sending time between 9 and 9:30 AM by FEDEX

Yes, I agree.. those roaches need to be crushed down with good governance..Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unique_Identification_Authority_of_India)) project is the first step of that process to have transparency to credit system, risk assessment, tax accountability, govt spending, crime control and so many others.. ... I think it will be a reality in next few years. similar development perspective is up with china now..they increased domestic consumption rather focusing only on exports..

Why don't we educate him by sending mails in writing to all the other news media organization's on a particular day - just like we did the flower campaign. Its costs less than a dollar and we can 1000's of them.
Folks, I have in the past written to Lou Dobbs directly expressing concerns with his vitriolic outbursts against Indians. He responded at length claiming the he has no disrespect or disregard for India, just that he cares about his country so much that relatively it might make the other country look worse off!
Here is what I would suggest: write to Lou and CNN producers exposing
how Lou's views:
- Are racially insensitive, slanderous to an entire community; with the risk of flaming hate crime (which is criminal offence)
- How they ignore the basic economic reality of high skilled labor's contribution and competitive advantage to the US economy and corporations
- How they ignore the basic legal reality that high skilled labor on H1B visas pay taxes, social security and medicare that goes back to the US economy
- How they tarnish the reputation of hardworking ambituous workers that are truly the only remaining link to the USA's hoary tradition of sweat equity with the hope of achieving the Great American Dream.
Basically, we need to point out that he is insulting his own country's grand traditions of democratic, legal and meritrocratic traditions by taking potshots at a defenseless community of white collar workers that are strengthening the social, economic and cultural fabric of this nation.
Of factual inaccuracy is his hallmark and his tradition. Let us counter that by reframing the context of the overall dialog so that the world see how shallow Lou Dobbs really is.

There should be support from most congress person for any bill to pass. All IV members should call the local congress person and request them to support the pro legal immigration bills.
