    This is one of three expected bills introduced in the House. The sponsor of this bill (there were no co-sponsors) is Sheila Jackson-Lee. She is a fringe player. Next Tuesday, Luis Gutierrez, the chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, plans to introduce his version of CIR. It will most likely concentrate on amnesty.

    At some point in the future, we can expect a bill from Zoe Lofgren. The Lofgren bill will be the one that will have bi-partisan supporters and will be taken seriously. That will be the "real" CIR proposal in the House.



    If I had to bet on it, my bet would be that if anything at all passes, it will be visa recapture, quota expansion, and H1b relief. There is a strong core of support for those measures. The weakest component of CIR is amnesty.

    This is absolutely fantastic. An article on the frontpage of Washington Post dedicated to IV. I'm sure the opponents must be cringing in their seats and biting their finger nails.

    $4000 sounds like a good deal for a Masters degree. Do you know which company hires people from Aspen though?

    Come on.. we are not talking about hiring.. No company is waiting in line to hire anybody coming out from Aspen University with Masters Degree.

    What we are talking here is whether One holding 3 yr bachelors Degree from India be eligible to apply under EB-2 category after completing Masters Degree from an accredited university.

    If the PERM Job description says " Masters Degree"

    My request for help on the following post http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showthread.php?t=12255 is not going well, I am still waiting to hear from analytical minds.

    Anyways, we are in process of creating an eye opener fact sheet that we will be distributed with the promotional fliers. The objective of the fact sheet is create a sense of urgency and draw people's interest to DC rally.

    I am looking for ideas as to what to put in the fact sheet, while I am still waiting to hear on my other post.

    Please contribute you thoughts. We need to get this completed in couple of days.

    Will send info asap when I'm done with a few other action items. I do encourage further breakdown based on area of chargability, but this is a great idea.

    it depends on the individual hospital... your downside is only your wife getting fired... which might not really happen unless your wife supplies 100 A grade nurses to the directly competing hospital across the street... if she does that, anyway she wont care for the job.... :-) all the best... let us know how it goes...

    Thanks chi_shark for your reply. We are currently going through all her signed contract documents just to make sure we don't get any problem in future because now a dayz getting a residency is like getting Green card.

    2) Dress properly - get a haircut and dont use cooking oil instead of gel. Get rid of the moustache if you have one. Make sure you dont stink. Dressing up smartly elevates your image - remember this country is very image conscious - which I think it should be. Dressing nicely and smelling good will not hurt anybody. To all desi women - please get rid of all the facial + body hair that is visible. Please wear makeup - because you may not be naturally beautiful. Donot act like slobs - nobody likes that.

    Resolving the BEC problem is definitely one of IV's main goals. There is no way I will believe in DOL's claim of clearing all the back logs by Oct 2007.

    IV has had a number of discussions with lawmakers and administrative officials, first to understand the issue and next to solve it. There are two ways to solve it. From our discussions, it has become clear that the lawmakers still view this as a temporary problem and are not willing to legislate on that behalf. Never the less all of them did agree that the efficiency of the BECs left a lot to be desired. So we were working a bi-partisan coalition of lawmakers who were willing to put pressure on DOL and USCIS on the need for efficiency and transparency.

    All of this was before the crazy pace with which the Comprehensive Immigration Bill began to move. We do have to realize that this bill is a golden chance to have our provisions in place and we have less than 2 weeks to works on it. Frist wants either of the Immigration Bills to be passed before Apr 7th. If we do miss out on our goals in this bill and this bill gets passed, we will not be able to revisit our issues for a long time. So right now a lot of the attention is being given to it. This does not mean that BEC is forgotten. Hope you do understand.


    I appreciate all that the more active members at IV are doing for BEC resolution. A sincere thank you.

    My posts were aimed at addressing the naive belief among a few members that the BEC mess is a non-issue. The IV community, I am sure, realizes that the BEC mess needs resolution. I do not think that IV has forgotten BEC issues; it wouldn't be one of our goals had we forgotten about it.

    Of course, different issues are to be highlighted at different times, depending on tactical necessities. So it is only appropriate that the current focus is on the bills. Those who are intimately and acitvely involved must of course set the priorities as they see fit.

    country ON THEIR SOIL!!

    I have read Gandhi's autobiography. He clearly explains that he first tried and succeeded using his manthra of passive resistance in South Africa against appalling treatment of Indian workers. They were on 'H1B' in South Africa and were treated worse than stray dogs. Gandhi fought against that and had some success.

    So the idea of passive resistance DOES work in a foreign land. We are fighting against injustice. Even H1B folks have some fundamental human rights, whether we are in a foreign country or not.

    Can some of experienced guyes answer my question about the DISABILITY INSURANCE.

    Some of you guys looks like confusing DISABILITY RIDER in the TERM/WHOLE policy with DISABILITY INSURANCE.

    DISABILITY INSURNACE will pay for (in Most case 60% of the last salary) if you become PERMANENTLY DISABLED and can not work up to the age of 62 or 65. After that SS will pay for you.

    DISABILITY RIDER that you have with extra cost in the LIFE INSURANCE policy cancel payment requirement of your Life Insurance policy. So If you become Disabled You WILL NOT HAVE TO PAY PREMIUM for your TERM/WHOLE Life policy and still it will be effective.



    Because of my one of the diseases I am always worried about DISABILITY insurance.
    I always try to get Short term and Long Term disability insurances through employer.

    But the problem is they always start with long preexisting exlusions and when you change jobs they dont continue so have to start new one which also has other new preexisting exlusions to start.

    You can convert your longterm disability to the personal policy if you have that for long time. but they are not valid if you get new job.

    Is there any private/personal (not employer sponsored) Short and long term DISABILITY Insurance policies that we can purchase out side of the job.? How are the premiums? Are they reliable?
    also do any of you know case where LIFE INSURANCE was actually paid and how easy/hard the process was for family?

    Also similar experiences if some one know if any one used DISABILITY INSURANCE and how hard it was?

    for reply.... as I said I am on EAD.....
    assuming you are serious about the house ..I can say this ..with your PD and category it makes more sense to rent a house for a year and then decide yourself.
    with a house you get lot of space, independence but with significantly high costs, maintenance and loss of mobility. plus you end up buying far away from your work ..so family time is lost during weekdays.
    in apartments - you end up saving and investing more in retirement accounts, children education accounts etc etc ..but the flexibility is priceless...also greater chance of your kids making more friends in apartment parks / play dates etc.
    so renting a house is a good bet if you really really need space ....home prices will decline for many more months in most locations and will be stagnant for years when u take inflation into account ..

    I would only say "Hang On", or move on if you can. A lot of people in same situations, never want to discuss issues openly.
    Patience does help, and maybe all the good is stored for future.


    yeah... sometimes trying to be diplomatic and patient is the only way out in this depressing immigration situation.

    I also realized, we should never talk about these visa issues with co-workers. It will make them bully you even more.

    digging through my old documents now.

    I was mistaken reading the labor cert application. It did say "we accept BS + 5 years progressive experience".

    I am 3 year Eng diploma + 1 year Eng post Diploma + 10 year exp in India + 5year Exp in US before filing Labor Cert .

    I do have a copy of the Educational evaluation used by my old attorney which says US master equivalent.

    As one member pointed out , there is a possibility that my original employer might have sent a letter saying Labor cert has mistakes but I have no way to confirm that . Or it could that the Officer is just trying to find any small thing to make the case deny.

    I am digging all my old docs to give it to my attorney and see what he is going to day .

    Yes the service center will send your employer a curtesy copy and attorney the origial approval. Once you get the Feel bill letter and send the cachiers check, they will create a case and send the packet 3. in which you can find the NVC case number.

    I'm not sure if they are going to move dates in Oct or not...

    I just got off the call from uscis regarding my I-485. My PD is in the first week of Mar 2006.

    Per the USCIS website, they are suppose to process even the first week of Mar 2006 although the Aug VB says it is 01MAR06. I spoke to the second level IO and he was confident that my case would have to wait for the next month. I insisted that the uscis website says otherways, he went and verified with the third level (or his peer) and came back and told me that I was correct.
    Infact told me that my case was pre-adjd and being reviewed by IO currently.

    I am sure the same applies to you with the Sep VB. Good luck !!!

    I'm went to the infopass website to make an appointment for interim EAD; I chose the "Washington Field Office" since I live in the DC Metro area. There are no appointments available in Aug and Sep!

    This is unbelievable! What other options do I have?

    Please advise. Thanks!
